横浜に生まれる。
1965年渡米
1967年コティカレッジ卒業、アメリカ、ミズーリ州
1969年カンサスシティ・アート・インスティテゥート卒業、ミズーリ州
1972年シンシナティ大学大学院絵画科卒業、オハイオ州

1972年から1980年までアリゾナ州ツーソン・アートミュジアムスクールで教鞭を執る。1980年から1985年までカリフォルニア州のサンディエゴ州立大学美術学部講師を務める。1989年日本へ帰国。以後2010年まで国際文化交流の仕事に携わる。現在、神奈川県湯河原町在住。
滞米中はカリフォルニア州、アリゾナ州などで個展を開催。数々のグループ展に参加。
2014年春ニューヨークのアゴラ・ギャラリーにて“East Meets West”展にて糸とアクリル絵具によるミックスドメディアの作品を発表。2015年6月個展「糸ものがたり」を横浜のArt Gallery 山手にて開催。同年10月伊豆の国アートビレッジで「糸ものがたり」展。2016年3月ニューヨークのアゴラ・ギャラリーにて“East Meets West”展。2017年2月アゴラ・ギャラリーにて“Mélange of Milieu”展、5月「創造のイノベーション」展を東京のレクトヴァーソギャラリーで開催。2018年9月「創造のイノベーション」展を東京のレクトヴァーソギャラリーで開催。2019年11月「創造のイノベーション」展を東京のレクトヴァーソギャラリーで開催。

Born in Yokohama, Japan. Moved to USA in 1965. Graduated from Cottey College in 1967, and in 1969 from Kansas City Art Institute with BFA in painting and completed the MFA program at University of Cincinnati in 1972.　While teaching at San Diego University in California (1980– 1985), exhibited widely throughout California. In 1989, moved back to Japan and engaged in a variety of cultural exchange projects between Japan and overseas.
In 2014 and 2016 exhibited in the group exhibition “East Meets West” at Agora gallery in New York. In spring of 2015 had a solo exhibition “ITO Story” at Art Gallery Yamate in Yokohama, and in fall of the same year the exhibition travelled to the Izunokuni Art Village in Shizuoka. In February of 2017 exhibited in the collective exhibition “Mélange of Milieu” at Agora gallery in New York, and in May participated in the three-person exhibition entitled “Art Wave Exhibition vol.45, Creative Innovation ” at Recto Verso Gallery in Tokyo.
